Registered dietitian and certified personal trainer Gianna Beasley has been blending nutrition and movement throughout her career; but her journey with GLP-1 medications has added a whole new layer to her story.
A Personal Connection Sparks Curiosity
Gianna first learned about GLP-1 medications in October 2022, thanks to a fellow dietitian known as the Sleeve Dietitian on Instagram. “I started seeing it and I was like, wait a second… this actually sounds like everything she was describing is me,” Gianna recalls.
Living with PCOS for over 14 years, Gianna had long faced challenges with insulin resistance and weight management, despite an active lifestyle and a foundation of healthy eating from her mother.
Struggles with Weight and Health
Even with her active lifestyle, Gianna’s journey with food and body image hasn’t always been smooth. During her teenage years, she received restrictive and harmful diet advice. “A doctor gave really bad advice… eat 1,200 calories a day and no carbs at all,” she says. “I was swimming at the varsity level and also a year-round club swimmer, and that just wasn’t sustainable.”
College brought its own challenges, but over time, Gianna found balance. She maintained a stable weight of 210–220 pounds, worked out regularly, and healed her relationship with her body. “I was living my best life… I worked out four to five days a week, I worked at a spin studio… it was great.”
Health Setbacks Shake Things Up
Early 2022 brought a dramatic turn. Already managing PCOS and celiac disease, Gianna experienced a flare-up from another autoimmune condition. The result? Rapid weight gain and inflammation. “I essentially gained 30 pounds in less than four months. I was so inflamed, you could see it through my face… I remember crying on a plane to London because I was in so much pain.”
Previous health strategies no longer worked, and Gianna began exploring GLP-1 medications. Her doctor agreed it could be a great fit…and so began a new chapter.
The GLP-1 Experience
Gianna started her GLP-1 medication in late 2022 and noticed improvements almost immediately. “Within the first four months, my inflammation was way down. I was sleeping better. I felt better.” Despite brief interruptions from surgery and travel, her insulin levels stabilized, and she regained the health she’d lost.
“The 30 pounds I gained in early 2022 were completely gone by summer of 2023. I went back to exactly where I was maintaining before, but now I feel so much better.” Gianna credits the medication for helping her manage health challenges she couldn’t control alone. “Now, I love life. I’ve curated a cute closet again. I feel good about things. I can travel now.”
Breaking the Stigma
As a healthcare professional, Gianna was initially nervous about sharing her experience with GLP-1. There’s so much stigma around these medications that Gianna was nervous to share at first.
But she quickly realized how powerful representation can be. “If I can just help one single person feel less alone… that’s worth it.” Today, Gianna focuses on supporting clients who use GLP-1 medications by combining her professional expertise with real, human experience.
Practical Guidance Through The GLP-1 Solution
Gianna’s book, The GLP-1 Solution, is designed to make the journey easier. Packed with over 175 tips, strategies, and tricks, it addresses common challenges people face on these medications.
“Each chapter is essentially a tip or a trick,” Gianna explains. “It’s one page, so if someone is struggling with a specific issue, they can just flip to the table of contents and find what they need immediately.”
Her book is as much about prevention as problem-solving. Gianna highlights how understanding lifestyle interactions, like portion sizes or certain food and drink combinations can prevent side effects such as nausea, fatigue, or digestive issues, ensuring that people stick with their medication successfully.
Bridging the Gap in Patient Support
Gianna noticed many people start GLP-1 medications without guidance, leading to unnecessary struggles. Her approach is proactive: equip people with the knowledge and tools to thrive from the start.
“If we just partnered together from the beginning, people could start feeling good on the medication instead of struggling and potentially discontinuing it unnecessarily.”
The GLP-1 Circle: Support Without the High Cost
To make ongoing support accessible, Gianna created the GLP-1 Circle, a membership program with live Q&As, a supportive community, personalized nutrition and exercise plans, and more, all through an app.
“It’s like having a dietitian in your pocket,” she says, emphasizing the personal touch. Membership is intentionally small to ensure everyone’s questions are answered directly.
Between her book and the GLP-1 Circle, Gianna has built a full support system for people using GLP-1 medications. Her mission is simple: make the journey safer, smoother, and more successful for everyone.
Redefining Support for GLP-1 Users
Gianna’s story shows that with the right tools, knowledge, and support, navigating life on GLP-1 medications is not only possible, but it can be empowering. She’s redefining what support looks like and proving that thriving on GLP-1 is absolutely achievable.
