When 26-year-old Bryana started her GLP-1 journey eight months ago, she never imagined how deeply it would change her life. Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.
“I’ve lost around 30 pounds,” she says, “but it’s more than that. I feel like a completely different person. I’m healthier, calmer, and I finally have control.”
Before GLP-1: Exhausted and Overworked
Before starting the medication, Bryana was working 50-hour weeks as a server. She was constantly on her feet and often grabbing whatever food was available at work. She thought she was eating somewhat healthy, but fatigue and stress were a daily struggle. She didn’t realize how much the extra weight was affecting her hormones and mood.
She first heard about GLP-1 medications through social media and friends. While on vacation in Aruba, a friend’s husband shared his own success after losing 30 pounds. Seeing those results firsthand sparked Bryana’s decision to start her own journey.
The Early Changes: Quieting the Food Noise
Once she began her prescription, Bryana noticed an immediate shift. At work, she stopped relying on quick-fried foods and started meal prepping instead. With the constant food noise in her head finally quieting, she found herself cooking, planning meals, and eating more intentionally.
“It wasn’t about willpower anymore,” she says. “My brain just got quieter.”
Freedom from Old Habits
Another surprising shift was her relationship with alcohol and nicotine. “In the service industry, everyone drinks after work,” she says. “I used to go out five nights a week because that was just what we did. But after starting GLP-1, alcohol made me feel sick, and eventually I just didn’t crave it anymore.”
This change also helped her quit vaping, a habit she had had since college. Eight months later, she can proudly say she hasn’t touched a vape.
With more energy and focus, Bryana took the risk to work for herself as a freelancer. She started creating social media content for brands, including MeAgain, an app designed especially for those on a GLP-1 journey.
“I document my experience on TikTok,” she says, “and that’s how I connected with the creator of Me Again. Now I make videos about things like my hair loss journey and protein tracking. It’s so cool to help other people who are going through the same thing.”
Lessons in Nutrition and Self-Care
Like many who experience rapid weight loss, Bryana noticed hair shedding in the early months. The cause, she learned, was simple: she wasn’t eating enough protein. Once she started tracking her intake, adding protein coffees, and supplementing with vitamins, the issue improved significantly.
Today she focuses on daily protein goals, nitric oxide for energy, and a multivitamin to support recovery. Her go-to ritual is a morning protein coffee to kickstart her day.
From Keto to Confidence
This isn’t Bryana’s first time losing weight, but it’s the first time it feels sustainable. Years earlier, she lost 40 pounds on the keto diet but regained it all after stopping. The restrictive approach left her fatigued and defeated.
“With GLP-1, it’s completely different,” she says. “I don’t feel restricted, I just feel mindful.”
Mindfulness has helped her heal her relationship with food. She no longer feels compelled to clean her plate or punish herself for indulgent meals. “It’s okay to stop eating when I’m full,” she says. “It’s not wasteful to honor your body.”
Rebuilding Her Circle
As her habits changed, so did her social circle. Bryana lost a few friends when she stopped going out drinking, but she sees it as a blessing in disguise. “It showed me who my real friends are,” she says. Fortunately, her family has been a strong source of support. Her mom is also on a GLP-1, giving them a shared understanding of the journey. “It’s nice to have someone who gets it.”
Listening to Her Body
Now, 30 pounds lighter, Bryana’s goal is to lose another 10 pounds at her own pace. Working from home means she has to make an effort to stay active, whether that is hitting 10,000 steps or lifting weights to rebuild muscle.
She is staying on the lowest dose of her medication, which works best for her body. “Everyone responds differently,” she says. “I’ll adjust if I need to, but for now, I feel great.”
Advice for New GLP 1 Users
For anyone just starting out, Bryana offers encouragement and some practical advice. “The shot doesn’t hurt nearly as much as you think,” she laughs. “I was terrified of needles, but it’s just a tiny pinch. I always drink electrolytes and get some protein before my shot because it helps with fatigue.”
Most importantly, she says, be patient. “If you don’t see results right away, don’t give up. It took years to gain the weight and it’s okay if it takes some time to lose it. We live in this world of instant gratification from fast food and social media. Everything’s about getting what we want now. But this process teaches you patience. It’s about building a better relationship with your body.”
Finding Grace and Gratitude
Looking back, Bryana sees her GLP-1 journey as much more than a medical treatment. It has been a catalyst for self-discovery.
“This isn’t just a weight loss story,” she reflects. “It’s about healing my relationship with food, letting go of what doesn’t serve me, and learning to give myself grace. Once the noise quieted, I finally had the space to figure out who I wanted to be.”
